A modern city and a major transport hub facing Seto Inland Sea, Takamatsu offers a bustling city lifestyle contrasted with carefully manicured, tranquil green areas at the foot of the mountains and the lava plateau.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Mon): take in the pleasant sights at Ritsurin Garden, get engrossed in the history at Shikoku Mura Village, then steep yourself in history at Marugame Castle, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kotohira-gu. On the 7th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the natural beauty at Tamamo Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yashima-ji Temple, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Yashima, then admire the masterpieces at The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, then make a trip to Takamasu Port, and finally test the waters at a local thermal spa.

Drive from Matsuyama to Kochi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In January in Kochi, expect temperatures between 52°F during the day and 36°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can take a train to Miyoshi.

A relatively new city, Miyoshi encompasses six surrounding rural districts into one.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Fri): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hashikuraji Temple, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Shiozuka Highland, then explore the activities along Oboke Koboke, then take in the pleasant sights at Iya Kazura Bridge, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens.
