A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Mon): admire the landmark architecture of Pittock Mansion and then tour the pleasant surroundings at The Grotto - National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother.

A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. We've included these beaches for you: Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area and Gleneden Beach State Park. Get out of town with these interesting Newport side-trips: Taft Bay (in Lincoln City), Earthworks Gallery (in Yachats) and Heceta Head Lighthouse (in Florence). Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Take a break from the city and head to Cannon Beach and Ecola State Park. Your inner history buff will appreciate Fort Clatsop National Memorial and Lightship Columbia. Take a break from Astoria with a short trip to Hug Point State Recreation Site in Arch Cape, about 48 minutes away. There's more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Astoria Column and pick up some new knowledge with Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
On the 22nd (Mon), wander the streets of Pioneer Square, wander the streets of Pike Place Market, and then take in panoramic vistas at Space Needle. On the 23rd (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the masterpieces at Chihuly Garden and Glass and then see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight.
