The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Yakusugi Land and Kigensugi Cedar. Step out of the city life by going to Nagata Inakahama and Seibu Trail. The adventure continues: don't miss a visit to Wilson Stump and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kusukawa Tenmangu Shrine.

When traveling from Shinkamigoto-cho in March, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Yakushima-cho: temperatures range from 63°F by day to 52°F at night. The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.

Fly from Yakushima-cho to Fukuoka in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry and car. Traveling from Yakushima-cho in March, Fukuoka is slightly colder at night with lows of 43°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
