Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Start off your visit on the 25th (Wed): steep yourself in history at Sengan-en, thenexplore the world behind art at Nagashima Museum, thencontemplate the geological forces at Sakurajima, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Shiroyama Observatory.

Saga is the capital city of Saga Prefecture, located on the island of Kyushu, Japan.Saga was the capital of Saga Domain in the Edo period, and largest city of former Hizen Province.As of February 28, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 234,453 and a population density of 543 persons per km². Kids will enjoy Suizenji Jojuen Garden and Gamadasu Dome (Mt. Unzen Disaster Memorial Hall). Explore Saga's surroundings by going to Onsen Resorts (in Yamaga), Shimabara Castle (in Shimabara) and Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell) (in Unzen). And it doesn't end there: take in the spiritual surroundings of Nannyo Shrine, stroll around Yoshinogari Historical Park, steep yourself in history at House of Yamaguchi Family, and make a trip to Mitsuse Soba Road.

Drive from Arita-cho to Saga in 1.5 hours. Traveling from Arita-cho in December, Saga is a bit cooler at night with lows of 2°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 30th (Mon) early enough to catch the train to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 31st (Tue), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dazaifu Tenman-gu, stop by Shimamoto Mentaiko Hakata Ekimae, thenadmire the striking features of Hakata Station, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine, and finally browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center. On the 1st (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the natural beauty at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, take in panoramic vistas at Fukuoka Tower, and then walk around Ohori Park.
