Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Mole Creek Caves and Marakoopa Cave. Take a break from the city and head to Lilydale Falls and Alum Cliffs. Take a break from Launceston with a short trip to Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary in Mole Creek, about 1h 05 min away. Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 5- hour combination of flight and bus. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry.
