Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Fri): indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the views from Alexandra Suspension Bridge, identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve, then admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley, and finally walk around City Park.

Melbourne to Launceston is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of ferry and car. Traveling from Melbourne in February, things will get a bit cooler in Launceston: highs are around 28°C and lows about 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Coles Bay.

Kick off your visit on the 9th (Sun): do a tasting at Gala Estate Vineyard, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Freycinet National Park, and then walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout. Keep things going the next day: let the kids burn off some steam at Melshell Oyster Shack, then don't miss a visit to Bicheno Blowhole, and then don't miss a visit to Mt Amos Climb.
