Though it features Etruscan defensive walls and a medieval town center, Perugia is perhaps best known for its fine chocolate and annual chocolate festival.
Explore Perugia's surroundings by going to Assisi (Tili Vini Societa Agricola, Eremo delle Carceri, &more), Siena (Castello delle Quattro Torri, Piazza del Campo, &more) and Duomo di Orvieto (in Orvieto). There's much more to do: learn about winemaking at Vineria del Carmine, explore the historical opulence of Rocca Paolina, get a taste of the local shopping with Casa del Cioccolato Perugina, and steep yourself in history at Historic Centre of San Gimignano.

If you are flying in from Malta, the closest major aiports are Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport, Ancona Falconara Airport and Federico Fellini International Airport. In December, plan for daily highs up to 11°C, and evening lows to 2°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Fri) so you can travel back home.
