The port city of Niigata has an association with tourism, but not really one to do with the city itself.
On the 23rd (Thu), sample the tasty concoctions at Imayo Tsukasa Sake Brewery, take an in-depth tour of Northern Culture Museum, then examine the collection at Niigtata Rice Cracker Museum, then take an in-depth tour of Niigata Prefectural Government Memorial Hall, and finally take an in-depth tour of Minatopia Niigata City History Museum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: identify plant and animal life at Ikutopia Shoku Hana, learn about winemaking at Cave D'occi Winery, then enjoy the sand and surf at Maze Simoyama Beach, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yahiko Shrine, and finally relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas.

It takes just over one hour to reach Yuzawa-machi from the country's capital by bullet train.
On the 25th (Sat), don't miss a visit to Okukiyo Powerhouse, hit the slopes at Naeba Ski Resort, then don't miss a visit to Ponshukan, then hit the slopes at Kagura Ski Resort, and finally test the waters at a local thermal spa.

You can do a combination of train and taxi from Niigata to Yuzawa-machi in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Myoko.

The small town of Myoko, nestled between five mountain peaks, attracts skiing and winter-sport enthusiasts with its famed resorts and abundant snowfall.
Get in touch with nature at Akakura Onsen Ski Area and Jogehama Beach. Do some cultural sightseeing at The Japanease Memorial Museum of Skiing and Shionomichi Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Myoko: Fossa Magna Museum (in Itoigawa) and Echigo Tsumari Art Field (in Tokamachi).
