With its U.S. Navy base, Sasebo has certainly developed pockets with an international feel: in downtown, often known as Sailor Town, you'll happen upon a number of eateries serving American-style hamburgers.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Thu): get to know the resident critters at Nagasaki Bio Park and then step off the mainland to explore Kujuku Island. On the 30th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: tour or see a game at Nagasaki Prefectural Saikaibashi Park, pause for some serene contemplation at Miuracho Catholic Church, take in nature's colorful creations at Tenkaiho, then take in panoramic vistas at Ishidake Observatory, then stroll through Kujukushima Pearl Sea Resort, and finally observe the fascinating underwater world at Kujukushima Aquarium Umikirara.

Tokyo to Sasebo is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. April in Sasebo sees daily highs of 22°C and lows of 14°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Fri) so you can go by car to Goto.

Traveling by car from Sasebo to Goto takes 3.5 hours. When traveling from Sasebo in April, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Goto: temperatures range from 19°C by day to 17°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Sat) early enough to go by car to Nagasaki.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II. This history, of course, remains important to the city, its inhabitants, and to the wider world, and should not be forgotten.
On the 2nd (Sun), admire the masterpieces at Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, make a trip to Glover Sky Road, then stroll around Nabekanmuriyama Park, then take in panoramic vistas at Inasayama Observation Deck, and finally see the interesting displays at Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims.

You can drive from Goto to Nagasaki in 2 hours. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Goto in May: highs in Nagasaki hover around 28°C, while lows dip to 19°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Sun) to allow enough time to fly to Yakushima-cho.

Yakushima-cho

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Visiting Yakusugi Land and Seibu Trail will get you outdoors. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Nagata Inakahama and Jōmon Sugi. There's much more to do: appreciate the views at Yoggo Valley, walk around Shakunagenomori Park, tour the pleasant surroundings at Anbo River, and don't miss a visit to Taikoiwa.

Traveling by flight from Nagasaki to Yakushima-cho takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of car and ferry. In May in Yakushima-cho, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 20°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Wed) to allow time to fly back home.
