Near the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers, Nagano combines historic sites with nearby forested alps dotted with shrines.
Get outdoors at Ike no Taira Shitsugen and Kaminaridaki Falls. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Mizuno Museum and Zenkoji Sesonin Shakado Temple. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nagano: Minakami-machi (Tanigawadaketenjindaira Ski Area, Tenichi Art Museum, & more), Nunobiki Kannon (in Komoro) and Myoko (Myoko Kogen, Naena Falls, & more). Spend the 11th (Tue) exploring nature at Shiga Kogen. On the 24th (Wed), spend an exhilarating day on the slopes at Shigakogen Yakebitaiyama Ski Area. And it doesn't end there: contemplate the long history of Sanada House, explore the world behind art at Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum Higashiyama Kaii Gallery, enjoy the sand and surf at Jogehama Beach, and delve into the lush surroundings at Togakushi Forest Botanical Garden.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major airports are Toyama Airport, Komatsu Airport and Niigata Airport. In June in Nagano, expect temperatures between 29°C during the day and 21°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
