Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Venture out of the city with trips to Ghibli Museum Mitaka (in Mitaka), Tokyo DisneySea (in Maihama) and Kamakura (Hase-dera Temple, Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura), & more). Have a day of magic on the 5th (Fri) at Tokyo Disneyland. The adventure continues: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, wander the streets of Odaiba, and admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower.

Tucson, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of shuttle and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Tucson to Tokyo is 16 hours. Expect colder weather when traveling from Tucson in June: highs in Tokyo hover around 79°F, while lows dip to 67°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) to allow time to travel to Akita.

Traveling by combination of flight and bus from Tokyo to Akita takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Tokyo in June: high temperatures in Akita hover around 74°F and lows are around 62°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 30th (Tue) early enough to travel to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Nara (Todai-ji Temple, Rokuen, & more), Koya-cho (Saito, Kongobu-ji Temple, & more) and Tsudoshiroyama Ancient Tomb (in Fujiidera). And it doesn't end there: find something for the whole family at Universal Studios Japan, explore and take pictures at Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution, take a stroll through Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, and admire the striking features of Kuchu Teien Observatory.

You can do a combination of bus and flight from Akita to Osaka in 4 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus, flight, and train; or drive. Traveling from Akita in June, you will find days in Osaka are a bit warmer (81°F), and nights are about the same (67°F). Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Venture out of the city with trips to Gokashokondo Street (in Higashiomi), Nishiyama Park (in Nagaokakyo) and Otsu (Jishu Shrine & Seta Golf Course North Course). There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, go for a walk through Arashiyama, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkaku-ji Temple, and take a stroll through Gion.

Kyoto is very close to Osaka. In July in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 89°F during the day and 76°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 29th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
