Perched beneath the foothills of several soaring mountains, the town of Minakami-machi provides a picturesque stepping stone from which to explore the dramatic surrounding scenery.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Minakami-machi: Kawaba-mura (Kojyu Hotspring & Tsuchida Brewery) and Katashina-mura (Ozegahara & Snowpal Oguna Hotaka). Spend the 12th (Fri) exploring nature at Oze National Park. On the 16th (Tue), spend a relaxing day on the river with I LOVE OUTDOORS JAPAN. There's much more to do: indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, take an in-depth tour of Naramata Dam Disaster Protection Museum, identify plant and animal life at Tsukiyono Hotaru no Sato Promenade, and make a trip to Takumi no Sato.

You can drive from Kusatsu-machi to Minakami-machi in 2 hours. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Wed) to allow time to drive to Shibukawa.

Often referred to as the "Belly Button of Japan," the city of Shibukawa celebrates its status as the country's geographical center by hosting the Heso Matsuri, or Belly Button Festival.
