Vernal, the county seat and largest city in Uintah County is in northeastern Utah, United States, about 175mi east of Salt Lake City and west of the Colorado border. You'll explore and learn at Utah Field House of Natural History State Park and Uintah County Heritage Museum. Step off the beaten path and head to Harper's Corner and Sand Wash Basin. Change things up with these side-trips from Vernal: Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (in Manila) and Jones Hole Trail (in Dinosaur). And it doesn't end there: take in the dramatic natural features at Moonshine Arch, hike along Hog Canyon Trail, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Ashley National Forest, and identify plant and animal life at High Uintas Wilderness Area.

For photos, other places to visit, maps, and more tourist information, read Vernal tour itinerary maker.

Salt Lake City to Vernal is an approximately 3-hour car ride. Traveling from Salt Lake City in June, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Vernal, with lows of °F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
