A physical and cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, the transcontinental city of Istanbul serves as a living reminder of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires.
Attractions like Hagia Sophia Museum / Church (Ayasofya) and Basilica Cistern make great kid-friendly stops. There's still lots to do: admire the striking features of Dolmabahce Palace, admire the masterpieces at Istanbul Modern, take a stroll through Ortakoy, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Suleymaniye Cami .

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Kids will enjoy Halaszbastya and Szechenyi Chain Bridge. Take a break from Budapest with a short trip to Eger Castle in Eger, about 1h 35 min away. There's lots more to do: get a sense of history and politics at Hungarian Parliament Building, take in the spiritual surroundings of Matthias Church, examine the collection at House of Terror Museum, and steep yourself in history at Liberty Statue.
