The capital and largest city of Niger, Niamey serves as an administrative, cultural, and economic center on the Niger River.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Mosquee Cite Caisse and Niamey Grand Mosque. Get a sense of the local culture at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and National Museum of Niger (Musee National du Niger). Zinder, formerly also spelled Sinder, is the second largest city in Niger, with a population of 170,574 ; by 2005 its population was estimated to be over 200,000. Step off the beaten path and head to Birni Quarter and Sultan's Palace. Get some cultural insight at Residence of Heinrich Barth and Regional Museum.
