Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nagasaki: Sasebo (Huis Ten Bosch & Mt. Yumihari). Getting from Ishigaki to Nagasaki by combination of flight and train takes about 6 hours. Other options: fly. Plan for a bit cooler temperatures traveling from Ishigaki in May, with highs in Nagasaki at 28°C and lows at 19°C. Explore Himeji's surroundings by going to Okayama (Okayama Castle, Okayama Korakuen Garden, & more), Kunimi no Mori Park (in Shiso) and Kurashiki (Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter & Ohara Museum of Art).
