A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
On the 29th (Sat), see the interesting displays at Tobu World Square, explore the activities along Lake Chuzenji, and then explore the activities along Ryuzu Waterfall. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 30th (Sun): steep yourself in history at Taiyuinbyo Shrine, admire the sheer force of Kegon Falls, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Nikko Futarasan jinja, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens.

Let the collections at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum capture your imagination. Get some cultural insight at Asakusa and Odaiba. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Mt. Takao in Hachioji, about 1 hour away. There's more to do: take a stroll through Akihabara.

You can drive from Nikko to Tokyo in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In October, plan for daily highs up to 25°C, and evening lows to 21°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Wed) to allow time to travel to Nagoya.

Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
On the 3rd (Thu), take a stroll through Sakae, then explore the historical opulence of Nagoya Castle, then see the interesting displays at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Atsuta Jingu. Keep things going the next day: wander the streets of Osu Shopping Street, then appreciate the views at Korankei, and then see the interesting displays at リニア・鉄道館 SCMAGLEV and Railway Park 〜夢と想い出のミュージアム〜.

Traveling by combination of subway and train from Tokyo to Nagoya takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, flight, and train; or drive. Traveling from Tokyo in November, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Nagoya, with lows of 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Fri) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kyoto National Museum and Hikone Castle will appeal to museum buffs. Visit Nijo Castle and Sanjusangendo Hall for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Uji (Byodoin Omotesando, Saisho-in Temple, & more), Otsu (Otsu Lakeside Nagisa Park & Otsu City Science Museum), Sasayama Castle Ruins (in Sasayama), Omihachiman (Hachiman-bori & Ruins of Azuchi Castle), Hozukyo Gorge (in Kameoka), Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo (in Ryuo-cho), Toyosato-cho (Ito Chubei Memorial House & Toyosato Shogakko Kyukoshagun), Hikone (Rakuraku Park & Hikone Castle) and Akame Shijuhachi Waterfall (in Nabari). Spend a day outdoors on the 7th (Mon) with Arashiyama. There's lots more to do: take a stroll through Gion, contemplate the long history of Katsura Imperial Villa, get great views at Kiyomizu-dera, and stroll through Mt. Kurama.

You can take a train from Nagoya to Kyoto in an hour. Another option is to drive. While traveling from Nagoya, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 20°C to lows of 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Wed) so you can travel to Osaka.

On the 10th (Sat), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kasuga Grand Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple, then look for all kinds of wild species at Nara Park, then examine the collection at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tōdai-ji.
