You'll explore and learn at Tokyo National Museum and Ghibli Museum Mitaka. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Sensō-ji and Ginza. Change things up with these side-trips from Tokyo: The Hakone Open-Air Museum (in Hakone-machi) and Kamakura (Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine & Kōtoku-in). Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Melbourne to Tokyo. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Melbourne in May; daily highs in Tokyo reach 28°C and lows reach 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Kanazawa.

Take a train from Tokyo to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect slightly colder evenings in Kanazawa when traveling from Tokyo in May, with lows around 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Nagoya.

Traveling by train from Nagoya to Osaka takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. When traveling from Nagoya in May, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Osaka: temperatures range from 29°C by day to 18°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Fri) early enough to travel to Hiroshima.

Do your shopping at Pinion Direct Shop and Nei Museum of Art. Visit Sukuji Beach and Akashi Beach for some beach relaxation. Step out of Ishigaki to go to Kuro-shima and see Nakamoto Beach, which is approximately 1h 25 min away. There's still lots to do: stroll through Yonehara Beach, enjoy the sand and surf at Fusaki Beach, see the vivid underwater world at Kabira Ishizaki Manta Scramble, and discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.
