Set on the island of Amami Oshima, the city of Amami serves as an oasis for tourists.
Explore hidden gems such as Kurasaki Beach and Honohoshi Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Amami side-trips: Yumeori no sato (in Tatsugo-cho) and Kuninao Beach (in Yamato-son). And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Tomori Beach, walk around Cape Ayamaru Kanko Park, explore the world behind art at Tanaka Isson Museum, and get outside with Sakibaru Beach.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Yakusugi Land and Seibu Trail. There's still lots to do: get outside with Nagata Inakahama, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, don't miss a visit to Jōmon Sugi, and explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley.

You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Yakushima-cho to Kagoshima in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and ferry. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Yakushima-cho in November: high temperatures in Kagoshima hover around 20°C and lows are around 10°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Mon) early enough to take a train to Kumamoto.
