A quiet castle town with a wealth of historic sites, Hagi draws visitors with its solid collection of traditional Japanese architecture.
Visiting Akiyoshido and Kitaura Seacoast will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Shoka Village School and Hagi Castle Town. Get out of town with these interesting Hagi side-trips: Akiyoshidai Safari Land (in Mine) and Motonosumi Shrine (in Nagato). Get some historical perspective at Usajingu Shrine and Amano Yasugawara. For shopping fun, head to Angel Kimono Rental Beppu or Homme Blue Cafe. Get out of town with these interesting Beppu side-trips: Usa (African Safari & Senzai Farm), Amano Iwato Shrine (in Takachiho-cho) and Oita Kemmin no Mori (in Oita). There's much more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Yufu, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, head outdoors with Mt. The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Nyokodo, Nagai Takashi Museum and Suwa Shrine. Step off the beaten path and head to Sakitsu Catholic Church and Catholic Nakamachi Church. Get out of town with these interesting Nagasaki side-trips: Amakusa (Sakitsu Museum Minatoya & Dolphin & Whale Watching).
