Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Dushanbe: Hisor (Hisor Fortress, Hisor HIstorical and Cultural Preserve, & more), Nurek (Nurek Dam, Stele to Constructors of Nurek Hydroelectric Power Plant, & more) and Ski Tourism Complex Safed Dara (in Tagob). There's much more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Iskanderkul Lake, don't miss a visit to Ismaili Centre, get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Tajikistan, and pause for some photo ops at Statue of Ismoil Somoni.

If you are flying in from Portugal, the closest major airport is Qurghonteppa International Airport. In August, plan for daily highs up to 42°C, and evening lows to 19°C. You will leave for home on the 29th (Sun).
