Annaba, informally known as Balad al-Unnâb, and Bona is a city in the north-eastern corner of Algeria near the Seybouse River, located in an eponymous province. Get out of town with these interesting Annaba side-trips: Guelma (Guelma Roman Theatre & Hammam Debagh Hot Springs) and Souk Ahras (Thubursicum & Madaure Ruins). There's still lots to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Basilique Saint Augustin, enjoy the sand and surf at Ain Achir Beach, and see the interesting displays at Hyppone.

Change things up with a short trip to La Place in Skikda (about 1h 25 min away). A Mediterranean port and provincial capital, Bejaia juxtaposes ancient monuments and national parks with the center of the Algerian and Western Mediterranean oil industry.
