The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Get a sense of the local culture at Amano Iwato Shrine and Aratate Shrine. Escape the urban bustle at Takachiho Gorge and Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces. Venture out of the city with trips to Gokase-cho (Unokono-taki, Josenji Temple, &more). There's still lots to do: go for a walk through Amano Yasugawara, snap pictures at Shinto Takachiho Bridge, make a trip to Tochimata Tanada Rice Terrace, and contemplate the long history of Kushifuru Shrine.
