The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Toji. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka (Osaka Castle & Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Explore hidden gems such as Okichan Theater and Kouri-jima Island. Kids will appreciate attractions like Scuba & Snorkeling and Minnajima Island. Fly from Kyoto to Onna-son in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of train and ferry. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Kyoto in October: high temperatures in Onna-son hover around 33°C and lows are around 26°C.
