Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Venture out of the city with trips to Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Shrine & Miyajima), Mt. Misen (in Miyajima) and Ohara Museum of Art (in Kurashiki). Singapore, Singapore to Hiroshima is an approximately 10.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone difference moving from Singapore Standard Time (SGT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 1 hour. In July, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can take a train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Get out of town with these interesting Himeji side-trips: Yabu (Tendaki Falls & Tarumino Ozakura), Okayama Korakuen Garden (in Okayama) and Daisen Outlook (in Mimasaka). And it doesn't end there: go for a walk through Himeji Castle, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura, and take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In July in Himeji, expect temperatures between 33°C during the day and 29°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Dotombori District (in Dotombori) and Universal Studios Japan (in Osaka). Traveling by train from Himeji to Kyoto takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Himeji in July, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 37°C by day to 28°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Mon) so you can drive to Kanazawa.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Take a break from Ishigaki with a short trip to Canyoning & Rappelling Tours in Iriomote-jima, about 1h 55 min away.
