The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
On the 6th (Wed), steep yourself in history at Nishi no Maru, admire the natural beauty at Kokoen Garden, then go for a walk through Himeji Castle, and finally steep yourself in history at Yoneda Taishiji Temple.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In February, daytime highs in Himeji are 10°C, while nighttime lows are 3°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.
