A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Taiyuinbyo Shrine and Kegon Falls. Attractions like Fukuroda Falls and EDO WONDERLAND 日光江戸村 make great kid-friendly stops. There's much more to do: get a new perspective on nature at Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, take in the dramatic scenery at Yutaki Waterfall, tour the pleasant surroundings at Nikko National Park, and examine the collection at Oya Stone Museum.

Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, about 40 minutes away. Have a day of magic on the 13th (Wed) at Tokyo Disneyland. Formed by the gradual merging of several old fishing villages, today the island town of Motobu-cho boasts paradisal beaches of white sand, clear waters, and a rich array of wildlife.
Bring the kids along to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Okichan Theater. Get some historical perspective at Sefa-Utaki and Nakijin Castle Remains. Venture out of the city with trips to Onna-son (Blue Cave, Cape Manza, & more), Nakijin-son (Kori Bridge, Kouri-jima Island, & more) and Nirai Beach (in Yomitan-son). You can do a combination of flight and ferry from Hiroshima to Motobu-cho in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Hiroshima in September since evenings lows in Motobu-cho dip to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Tue) to allow time to travel back home.
