Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Get out of town with these interesting Dushanbe side-trips: Hisor Fortress (in Hisor) and Nurek Dam (in Nurek). There's lots more to do: walk around Rudaki Park, make a trip to Statue of Ismoil Somoni, have some family-friendly fun at Kokhi Navruz, and get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Tajikistan.

For other places to visit, traveler tips, more things to do, and tourist information, you can read our Dushanbe tour itinerary tool .

If you are flying in from Uzbekistan, the closest major airport is Qurghonteppa International Airport. In November, daytime highs in Dushanbe are 19°C, while nighttime lows are 2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
