Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Hobart: Shene Distillery (in Pontville) and Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (in Brighton). There's still lots to do: take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and go for a walk through Battery Point Sculpture Trail.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Traveling from Sydney in February, expect Hobart to be a bit cooler, temps between 26°C and 14°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Tue) so you can go by car to Port Arthur.

Derwent Bridge is a locality on the Lyell Highway at the southern edge of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.It is just south of Lake St Clair and the Lake St Clair visitor centre; and it is north of Lake King William and the Butlers Gorge Power Station.It is also the last inhabited location before Linda Valley in the West Coast Range - this section of the highway passes through the Wild Rivers National Park. Start off your visit on the 7th (Sun): take in the awesome beauty at Frenchmans Cap, then get great views at King William Saddle, then pause for some photo ops at The Wall in the Wilderness, and finally explore the wealth of natural beauty at Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
