The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Amano Iwato Shrine and Takachiho Shrine. Visiting Manai Falls and Kunimigaoka will get you outdoors. Change things up with these side-trips from Takachiho-cho: Daikanbo (in Aso) and Asobonosato Kugino (in Minamiaso-mura). And it doesn't end there: take in the pleasant sights at Amanoyasu Kawara, hunt for treasures at Takachiho Gamadase Market, identify plant and animal life at Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces, and take in breathtaking views at Takachiho Gorge.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Visit Cape Hirakubozaki and Ishigaki Yaima Village for their historical value. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Yurateiku Market and Pinion Direct Shop. The adventure continues: stop by Nanapito Hompo, enjoy the sand and surf at Yonehara Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Kondoi Beach, and head outdoors with Mt.Omotodake.

Do a combination of taxi and flight from Takachiho-cho to Ishigaki in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight. While traveling from Takachiho-cho, expect a bit warmer days and much warmer nights in Ishigaki, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 21°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Thu) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Step out of the city life by going to Toguchi no Hama and Yabiji. Discover out-of-the-way places like Kouri Island and Shimojiiima Island. There's much more to do: step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island, stop by Furusato, stroll through Aragusuku Beach, and kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach.

Getting from Ishigaki to Miyakojima by flight takes about an hour. March in Miyakojima sees daily highs of 26°C and lows of 20°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 11th (Mon) so you can travel to Naha.

Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Escape the urban bustle at Scuba & Snorkeling and Okinawa World Bunka Okoku Gyokusendo. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like The Tower of Himeyuri and Naminoue-gu Shrine. Get out of town with these interesting Naha side-trips: Okinawa Peace Memorial Park (in Itoman), Onna Station Nakayukui Market (in Onna-son) and Sefa-Utaki (in Nanjo). A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Head to Yakushima Local Produce Processing and Marketing Center and Sugishofor plenty of shopping. Get outdoors at Oko no Taki Fall and Tachudake. Spend the 15th (Fri) exploring nature at Yakusugi Land. There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Anbo River, take in the dramatic scenery at Janokuchinotaki Falls, explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ushidokomoisho.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Naha to Yakushima-cho in 6 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, ferry, and car; or do a combination of flight, car, and ferry. Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Naha in March, with highs in Yakushima-cho at 20°C and lows at 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Mon) early enough to travel to Kochi.

Getting from Yakushima-cho to Kochi by combination of taxi and flight takes about 6.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi, flight, and train; or do a combination of car, ferry, and train. Traveling from Yakushima-cho in March, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Kochi, with lows of 7°C.
