The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Ebisuya, Kyoto Arashiyama. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Toji and Tofuku-ji Temple. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Osaka Castle in Osaka, about 1h 10 min away. There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take a stroll through Gion, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Bangkok, Thailand to Kyoto is an approximately 9.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of flight and bus. You'll lose 2 hours traveling from Bangkok to Kyoto due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Bangkok in May, you will find days in Kyoto are slightly colder (29°C), and nights are cooler (17°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Tue) to allow time to take a train to Kanazawa.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Kyoto in May, you will find days in Kanazawa are little chillier (26°C), and nights are about the same (15°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Fri) to allow time to take a train to Tokyo.
