You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Head to Minato Mirai 21 and Takeshita Streetfor some retail therapy. Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Senso-ji Temple, wander the streets of Ginza, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, and take some stellar pictures from Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Edmonton, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Edmonton to Tokyo is 16 hours. Expect a bit warmer temperatures when traveling from Edmonton in May; daily highs in Tokyo reach 28°C and lows reach 19°C. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Kinkaku-ji and Osaka Castle will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Dotonbori in Osaka, about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sanjusangendo Temple, and take a stroll through Gion.

Getting from Tokyo to Kyoto by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. In May, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 29°C, while at night they dip to 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.

Take a break from the city and head to Yonaha Maehama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Toguchi no Hama and Sunayama Beach. There's much more to do: see the vivid underwater world at Yabiji, take in the views from Kurima Bridge, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Miyakojima in 4.5 hours. Another option is to fly. Traveling from Hiroshima in May, expect Miyakojima to be somewhat warmer, temps between 32°C and 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Thu) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Step out of Seoul to go to Paju and see DMZ Haemaru Village, which is approximately 1h 25 min away. Next up on the itinerary: admire the striking features of Changdeokgung Palace, don't miss a visit to Bukchon Hanok Village, take some stellar pictures from N Seoul Tower, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Cheonggyecheon Stream.
