With its history proudly stemming from the Scottish settlers who came here during the colonial era, Dunedin's streets are lined with well-preserved examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture, while a new culture of nightlife and fine dining takes hold around them.
Get some cultural insight at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum and Olveston Historic Home. Step out of the city life by going to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Penguin Place. Change things up with a short trip to Moeraki Boulders in Oamaru (about 1h 30 min away). There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Otago Peninsula, hike along Tunnel Beach Track, tour the old-fashioned way with a train tour, and explore and take pictures at The Royal Albatross Centre.

Situated on the shores of Lake Wanaka in the Otago region, Wanaka has become a popular ski and summer resort area, owing to its extensive views of the lake and its proximity to some of the best slopes in the country.
Maori Point Vineyard and Warbirds & Wheels are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Wanaka and Helicopter Tours. The town of Whangamatā is sited on the southeast coast of the Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island of New Zealand. Take a break from the city and head to Opoutere Surf Beach and Pauanui Beach. Step off the beaten path and head to Whiritoa Beach and Anzac Bay. Step out of Whangamata with an excursion to The Little Gallery in Tairua--about 48 minutes away.
