Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
You'll get in some beach time at Yonehara Beach and Sunset Beach. Do your shopping at Ibaruma Farm Fruits Chokubaijo and Nei Museum of Art. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ishigaki: Kuro-shima (Miyazato Beach, Fuki Beach, &more). The village of Zamami-son in the western Kerama Islands spans four of the islands in the group, one of which remains uninhabited.
On the 23rd (Thu), snap pictures at Aka Bridge, enjoy the sand and surf at Hizushi Beach, head off the coast to Gahi Island, then kick back and relax at Gahijima Sand Dune, and finally head outdoors with Ama Beach. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Gion. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Nishiki Market Shopping District and Ippuya. On a trip to Shimoda, a small town nestled on the tip of the Izu peninsula, you can take advantage of the scenic sandy beaches and soak in the laid-back atmosphere.
