Venture out of the city with trips to Maihama (Tokyo DisneySea & Ikspiari), Kamakura (Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Kōtoku-in, & more) and Naka (Sankeien Gardens & Yokohama Chinatown). Calgary, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 15-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference moving from Mountain Standard Time (MST) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 16 hours. While traveling from Calgary, expect somewhat warmer days and much hotter nights in Tokyo, ranging from highs of 36°C to lows of 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Fujikawaguchiko-machi.

Venture out of the city with trips to Narusawa-mura (Mt. Fuji 5th Station & Mt. Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station), Fujinomiya (Kengamine & Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine) and Oshino Hakkai (in Oshino-mura). The adventure continues: contemplate the geological forces at Mount Fuji, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Yamanaka, find something for the whole family at Fuji-Q Highland, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine.

Traveling by car from Tokyo to Fujikawaguchiko-machi takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in July, expect nights in Fujikawaguchiko-machi to be about the same, around 25°C, while days are little chillier, around 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Fri) so you can go by car to Kyoto.

Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Osaka (Universal Studios Japan, Osaka Castle, & more) and Todai-ji Temple (in Nara). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, get to know the resident critters at Monkey Park Iwatayama, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ryoanji Temple, and wander the streets of Gion.

Drive from Fujikawaguchiko-machi to Kyoto in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or do a combination of bus and flight. When traveling from Fujikawaguchiko-machi in July, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 37°C by day to 28°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Hiroshima.
