Surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, valleys, beaches, and deserts, the metropolitan area of Los Angeles is home to over 17 million people.

Take a break from the city and head to El Pueblo de Los Angeles and Ballona Wetlands. Shop till you drop at Hammer Museum and Olvera Street. Take a break from Los Angeles with a short trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita, about 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, explore the different monuments and memorials at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, enjoy the sand and surf at Santa Monica Bay, and stroll around Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park.

Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles is an approximately 18-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. You can fly from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 4 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of bus and flight. When traveling from Los Angeles in May, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Las Vegas: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 20°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Tue) to allow time to travel to New York City.

Getting from Las Vegas to New York City by flight takes about 9 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. The time zone changes from Pacific Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a 3 hour difference. Traveling from Las Vegas in May, things will get little chillier in New York City: highs are around 24°C and lows about 15°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
