Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Kayaking & Canoeing. Step out of the city life by going to Yonehara Beach and Cape Hirakubozaki. And it doesn't end there: stroll through Kondoi Beach, enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, walk around Banna Park, and take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Chion-in Temple. Visit Tofuku-ji Temple and Kinkaku-ji for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Todai-ji Temple (in Nara) and Osaka (Osaka Castle & Dotonbori). There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, go for a walk through Arashiyama, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

Traveling by combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Kyoto takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of flight and bus. Traveling from Miyakojima in October, things will get little chillier in Kyoto: highs are around 27°C and lows about 18°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Sun) early enough to travel to Shari-cho.

Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
Escape the urban bustle at Shiretoko Goko Lake and Shiretoko Peninsula. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Kamuiwakka Hot Waterfall and Mashu Third Observatory. When in Shari-cho, make a side trip to see Lake Mashu in Teshikaga-cho, approximately 1h 30 min away. The adventure continues: cruise along Shiretoko Pass and make a trip to Shiretoko Misaki.

Do a combination of flight and taxi from Kyoto to Shari-cho in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of car and ferry. Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Kyoto in October, with highs in Shari-cho at 16°C and lows at 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Tokyo.
