One of Poland's oldest cities, Krakow sits at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, its historical town center nestled on the left bank of the Vistula River.
Take a break from Krakow with a short trip to Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oswiecim, about 1 hour away. There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Wawel Cathedral, examine the collection at Wieliczka Salt Mine, take a stroll through Stare Miasto, and pause for some serene contemplation at St. Mary's Basilica.

Getting from Budapest to Krakow by flight takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Budapest, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Krakow, ranging from highs of 66°F to lows of 47°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Warsaw.
