Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Hozomon and Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Edo-Tokyo Museum and Kanda Myojin will appeal to museum buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tokyo: Kamakura (Hase-dera Temple, Kencho-ji Temple, &more), Kinomiya Shrine (in Atami) and Samukawa Shrine (in Samukawa-machi). There's still lots to do: shop like a local with Yokohama Minato Mirai 21, contemplate the long history of Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, stop by Ueno District, and examine the collection at Samurai Museum.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Place and Niseko Hanazono Resort. Take a break from the city and head to Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area and Furano Ski Resort. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Sapporo: Campana Rokkatei (in Furano) and Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho). It doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Hokkaido Jingu and fly down the slopes at Okurayama Lookout.

Traveling by flight from Tokyo to Sapporo takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of bus and train.
