Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Asakusa Shrine and Hokokuji Temple (Takedera Temple) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Mitsumine Shrine (Chichibu) and Kencho-ji Temple for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Tokyo side-trips: Oya History Museum (in Utsunomiya), Hakone Museum of Art (in Hakone-machi) and Oyama Afuri Shrine (in Isehara). There's lots more to do: get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, take a stroll through Yanaka, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, and see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

Medellin, Colombia to Tokyo is an approximately 26-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Medellin to Tokyo, you'll lose 14 hours due to the time zone difference. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get some historical perspective at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Kennin-ji Temple and Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sanjusangendo Temple, and wander the streets of Gion.
