Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Museum-lovers will appreciate National Museum of Tajikistan and NOOR ART GALLERY. National Museum of Antiquities and Hisor Fortress are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Dushanbe: Ski Tourism Complex Safed Dara (in Tagob) and Nurek Dam (in Nurek). There's still lots to do: walk around Rudaki Park and get your game on at Kokhi Navruz.

Do a combination of bus and flight from Bishkek to Dushanbe in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. The time zone changes from Kirgizstan Time (KGT) to Tajikistan Time (TJT), which is usually a -1 hour difference. In March, daytime highs in Dushanbe are 20°C, while nighttime lows are 5°C.
