Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Wed): trek along Shi no Komichi, hike along Kitaone Kogen Highland, and then hike along Hakuba Daisekkei Trail. On your second day here, fly down the slopes at Hakuba, then head outdoors with Hakuba Lion Adventure, and then take in the views from Hakuba Ohashi Bridge.

Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Tokyo in March; daily highs in Hakuba-mura reach 11°C and lows reach 3°C. Near the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers, Nagano combines historic sites with nearby forested alps dotted with shrines.
