Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
For shopping fun, head to Ginza or Kimono Me. Get some cultural insight at Sensō-ji and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Tokyo side-trips: Kamiyatsuno Okusuu (in Ogose-machi) and Ghibli Museum Mitaka (in Mitaka). There's much more to do: take a stroll through Odaiba, shop like a local with Takeshita Street, get to know the fascinating history of Imperial Palace, and take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Toronto, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 14 hours traveling from Toronto to Tokyo. Traveling from Toronto in May, expect Tokyo to be a bit warmer, temps between 28°C and 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Sun) early enough to travel to Kyoto.

Once a small fishing town, Yokohama was one of the first ports to welcome foreign trade in the 19th century, after which it grew into Japan's second largest city and a bustling metropolis.
On the 11th (Sat), head off the coast to Enoshima Island, then contemplate the long history of Hase-dera Temple, then steep yourself in history at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, and finally get a taste of the local shopping with Yokohama Chinatown. Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Sankeien Gardens, delve into the lush surroundings at Yokohama Nature Sanctuary, then pause for some serene contemplation at Kamakura Church, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura).
