The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.

Auckland, New Zealand to Fukuoka is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Auckland to Fukuoka, you'll gain 3 hours due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Auckland in September, expect nights in Fukuoka to be somewhat warmer, around 24°C, while days are much warmer, around 32°C. You'll set off for Hiroshima on the 30th (Mon).

Shop till you drop at Itsukushima Gekijyo and Asse. Popular historic sites such as Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima and Atomic Bomb Dome are in your itinerary. Get out of town with these interesting Hiroshima side-trips: Hatsukaichi (Miyajima & Mikasahama Beach). The adventure continues: see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle.

You can take a train from Fukuoka to Hiroshima in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In September, daily temperatures in Hiroshima can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 24°C. On the 3rd (Thu), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Shop till you drop at Dotonbori and Musubi Kyoto. Venture out of the city with trips to Osaka (Universal Studios Japan & Osaka Castle). It doesn't end there: take a stroll through Gion.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In October, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 27°C, while at night they dip to 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 8th (Tue) to allow enough time to take a train to Nagoya.

Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Legoland Japan. Head to Sakae and Kutsurogiyafor some retail therapy. Your inner history buff will appreciate Nagoya Castle and Inuyama Castle. Step out of Nagoya with an excursion to Oharai-machi in Ise--about 1h 35 min away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, make a trip to Osu Shopping Street, and take in panoramic vistas at Nagoya TV Tower.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Nagoya takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Kyoto, expect little chillier days and about the same nights in Nagoya, ranging from highs of 24°C to lows of 19°C. On the 13th (Sun), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Tokyo.
