Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and Fukuzen-ji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from the city and head to Daisen and Nakayama Senmaida. Get out of town with these interesting Okayama side-trips: Zentsu-ji Temple (in Zentsuji), Kumadaniji Temple (in Awa) and Misasa-cho (Onsen Resorts & Yakushi-do). Get some historical perspective at Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Ninna-ji Temple and Kennin-ji Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Obakusan Manpuku - ji Temple in Uji--about 34 minutes away. The adventure continues: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kamigamo Shrine, don't miss a visit to Daigo-ji Temple, take a stroll through Gion, and contemplate the long history of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
