Museum-lovers will appreciate Tokyo National Museum and Ghibli Museum. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Senso-ji Temple and Edo-Tokyo Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tokyo: Kamakura (Hase-dera & Kōtoku-in). The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get in touch with nature at Philosopher's Walk and Nara Park. Get some cultural insight at Sanjusangendo Temple and Kiyomizu-dera. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Kyoto: Nara (Tōdai-ji & Wakakusa Hill) and Osaka Castle (in Osaka). There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkaku-ji Temple, get outside with Arashiyama, and admire the natural beauty at Shosei-en Garden.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or drive. Expect little chillier evenings in Kyoto when traveling from Tokyo in April, with lows around 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.

Go for a jaunt from Hiroshima to Hatsukaichi to see Itsukushima Shrine about 58 minutes away. You can take a train from Kyoto to Hiroshima in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train, bus, flight, and ferry. April in Hiroshima sees daily highs of 22°C and lows of 12°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
On the 15th (Sun), make a trip to Shoshazan Engyoji, admire the natural beauty at Kokoen Garden, then contemplate the long history of Himeji Castle, and finally make a trip to Otemae Street. Keep things going the next day: snap pictures at Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, steep yourself in history at Ruins of Akashi Castle, and then don't miss a visit to Awaji Highway Oasis.
