The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Step off the beaten path and head to Amano Yasugawara and Oka Castle Ruins. Takachiho Shrine and Amano Iwato Shrine are good opportunities to explore the local culture.
