The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nara Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Nijo Castle. Step out of Kyoto to go to Dotombori and see Dotombori, which is approximately 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, contemplate the long history of Heian Shrine, and take in the pleasant sights at Gion.

You can drive from Iwami-cho to Kyoto in 4 hours. When traveling from Iwami-cho in June, plan for a bit warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 32°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 22°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Mon) so you can catch the train to Tokyo.

Relax by the water at Ita Beach and Odoi Beach. Visiting Mount Fuji and Mihamasaki Cape will get you outdoors. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Numazu: Hakone-machi (Lake Ashi (Ashinoko) & The Hakone Open-Air Museum) and Miho Seacoast (Miho no Matsubara Beach) (in Shizuoka).
