Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Take a break from the city and head to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Seven Mile Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Cascade Brewery and Museum of Old and New Art (Mona). There's still lots to do: shop like a local with Salamanca Market, get to know the fascinating history of Battery Point Sculpture Trail, kick back and relax at Kingston Beach, and admire the local landmark of The Tasman Fountain.

Getting from Port Arthur to Hobart by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. In November, plan for daily highs up to 22°C, and evening lows to 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can drive to Coles Bay.

Change things up with a short trip to Melshell Oyster Shack in Dolphin Sands (about 48 minutes away).
