Kick off your visit on the 28th (Fri): don't miss a visit to Shiretoko Misaki, take in the dramatic scenery at Kamuiwakka Hot Waterfall, then explore the activities along Shiretoko Goko Lake, and finally head outdoors with Shiretoko Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at Shiretoko Peninsula, make a trip to Shiretoko Pass, and then take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Rausu.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
On the 30th (Sun), look for all kinds of wild species at Yakusugi Land. On the 31st (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, hike along Seibu Trail, and then admire the sheer force of Oko no Taki Fall.

Traveling by combination of taxi and flight from Shari-cho to Yakushima-cho takes 9 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, flight, and taxi; or do a combination of car, flight, and taxi. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from Shari-cho in August: high temperatures in Yakushima-cho hover around 36°C and lows are around 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Mon) so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get outdoors at Amanohashidate and Nara Park. Discover out-of-the-way places like Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Nanzen-ji Temple. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara, about 44 minutes away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and wander the streets of Gion.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Get in touch with nature at Kondoi Beach and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. Discover out-of-the-way places like Yonehara Beach and Scuba & Snorkeling.
